History/Overview

The Audi Q4 E-tron is back for its second year as the brand’s least-expensive electric crossover model. Though it splits the difference size-wise between the Q3 and Q5 models, the Q4 E-tron appeals to a different audience altogether with its all-battery powertrain.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

For 2023, the Q4 E-Tron’s only change is the addition of standard Audi Connect security and assistance functionality.

The Q4 E-tron comes in a single trim powered by dual electric motors for all-wheel traction.

Standard Features

Among the Q4 E-tron’s standard features are 19-inch wheels, LED headlights/taillights, a power tailgate, passive keyless entry, heated front seats with driver’s power adjustments, three-zone A/C, leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, and heated steering wheel. Infotainment functions are handled through a 10.1-inch touchscreen with smartphone interface, satellite radio, and a 10.25-inch digital driver display.

The Q4 E-tron’s safety suite comprises forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.

Key Options

A premium package adds auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, power passenger seat, an auto-dimming interior mirror, sport front seats, navigation, traffic sign recognition, wireless phone charging and an integrated garage door opener.

The tech package builds on the premium pack with a heated windshield, matrix LED headlights with washers, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, park assist, and an upgraded stereo. You can also add the tech pack’s driver assist features on their own in the advanced driver assistance package.

Fuel Economy

Audi’s energy consumption estimates are 2.4/2.7 Le/100 km (city/highway), with a promised 380 km of driving range.

Competition

With the Q4 E-tron, Audi goes up against the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Cadillac Lyriq, Genesis GV60, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and Volvo XC40 Recharge.

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the parking lamps to turn off when the headlights are turned on and a turn signal is activated. As a result, the parking lights could be difficult to see. Canadian regulations require the parking lamps to stay on constantly when the headlights are turned on. Safety Risk: Parking lamps that do not work properly could make the vehicle less visible to others and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Audi will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the headlight control module software.

Issue: Under certain conditions, the plug for the 220 V compact vehicle charging cable could become damaged by the house power outlet. As a result, the cable could overheat while charging. Note: This recall only affects electric and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) models. Safety Risk: Wiring that overheats could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: Audi will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the vehicle charging cable. For unsold vehicles, the dealer will remove the charging cable before they are delivered to consumers.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the head curtain airbags could contact the metal part of the front door seals when they inflate in a crash. If this happens, a side curtain airbag could tear. This could also cause the vehicle not to meet the ejection mitigation requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: A head curtain airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to secure both front door seals.
